But today's topic, uh, it's picking your client.
And it's a really interesting conversation because the biggest thing that I hear from builders and, uh, architects and, "Oh, the client sucks," and, "Oh, we just don't get along," I think that's a you problem.
Oh, 100% think that's a you problem.
Uh, I, I think that's not a client problem.
I think that's a you problem.
And I have the best relationships with my clients, and I, I haven't had, there's been in the past of some jobs that I haven't had the greatest relationships with them, um, before I was like maybe 10 years ago.
That, that's because I didn't know what I didn't know, and it was a lack of process, a lack, lack of structure.
Yeah.
But what I know now is we get so many amazing clients that they just keep setting the benchmark for the next client.
Yeah.
And I think it's also important too to understand that, um, most people like structure.
Yeah.
And if you're a young builder and you don't have a really well-structured ECI or early involvement or pre-construction process, of course the client's gonna get annoyed.
Of course the client's gonna be confused-
Yeah
... because you're not setting the expectation.
Like-
You're the, you're the expert here
... you're the expert here, so, you know, your clients are looking to you to understand what the next steps are.
So I challenge anyone that's listening to this episode now, have a really good think about what the workflow is in your pre-construction process.
Yep.
Because you need to then be able to communicate that really clearly to your clients.
So one of the first things we do, we have, someone fills out a form on our website.
They get a reply instantly for a second form to fill out that's a lot more detailed.
There's two important questions I have on there.
