Again, I'm sure, and I know for a fact that I had researched who this individual was online years ago, but the important thing is the quote itself.

Well, if you've never given yourself to the pleasure of dance, you may not know the truth to this quote.

It carries the magic of unburdening us from heaviness, and it unleashes a font of joy from within us.

As a little girl, I saw an episode of American Bandstand on Saturday morning TV.

As I watched teenagers laugh and dance together on the floor of this Philadelphia-based 1960s dance show, I told my mom that I wanted to learn to do the same thing.

Those kids looked like they were having a ball, and I wanted to join in the fun.

Well, surprisingly, I didn't begin learning how to dance until I was nearly 50 years old.

By that time, I was frightened, confused, and an overwhelmed dance student who had acquired lots and lots of mental baggage looking to prevent me.

I failed my dance class twice at our local college, but continued to forge ahead.

Learning to dance provided a sense of expression I had not known previously, and it provided me with a shortcut to joy that I never knew possible.

Today, I dance as often as I can, and whenever I do, I'm filled with a certain joy and freedom.

Dance was such a powerful link to my personal happiness that I actually wrote a book about the experience of learning how to dance, and it became the first in my Art of Happiness book series.

And you'll know, I already put that little book out as a previous podcast, and I called it Exiting the Comfort Zone, Dance or Die.

Anyway, to conclude, it's not necessary to take dance lessons in order to dance.

If you want a shortcut to happiness, Put some music on today and move your own body into joy.
