S02/E33: "Stability Without Drama" - What Remains When Compulsion Weaken

Ordinary Outer Life The Actor Your life stays the same size, the same address, the same relatives, the same bills, the same body with its familiar aches.

No circumstance rearranges itself to mark the change, and none needs to.

The work begins in the conditions where you find yourself, and it continues there.

Those conditions provide the material because they reach parts of you that invented conditions often miss.

So, the outer life carries on, and the change happens inside it.

From outside, what others notice is sanity.

Proportion has returned.

A remark gets taken as a remark.

Nobody applauds this, because from outside it looks like ordinary steadiness, which is what it is.

Inside, one sentence describes the arrangement better than any other.

The chief means of happiness in this life is the ability to consider externally always, internally never.

Two halves.

Externally always.

The person in front of you and the situation in front of you receive the attention they actually need.

What does this person require from you now? What does this moment call for? You answer that.

Internally, never.

The inside stops taking orders from the outside.

A sharp tone arrives and no inner calculation follows about what it says of you or how you came across.

The practical picture is an actor.

Play the role each situation asks for.

Warm with one person, brisk with another, patient with a third.

Then your life will be easier, but inside it must be different.

Or, in fewer words, Internally do not identify.

Externally play a role.

Some ears hear hypocrisy in that.
