Account balancing isn’t about perfection — it’s about clarity. In this episode of MakingCents, guest host Thomas Racca sits down with Sun Bayless, SVP of Membership and Deposit Products, to talk…
I have a joint checking account with my son, and I will admit I get those lower balance notifications more frequently than I would like.
For our listeners who feel like money is tight today, what would you recommend as a way to start building a savings buffer without getting overwhelmed?
One of the things that I recommend first is to save not just for the sake of savings, but save with a goal in mind.
There's something about when you're able to make it something tangible, it motivates you.
You had a bad experience once and you really don't want to find yourself in that situation again.
So what I recommend is just open one of those free savings accounts that we offer.
And what you're able to do is separate out your savings fund from the rest of your day-to-day checking savings account.
And so you set up the separate savings account and then just start with a small and achievable amount that you can automatically transfer every month.
It doesn't have to be something that you find is going to be a really big stretch goal.
It's all about building confidence, knowing that you can do it and just starting.
