#485 — The New Science of Cancer

Sid, it's great to see you again.

Pleasure, mine.

So we have a lot to talk about.

You have an updated version of your Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer, which, uh, came out fifteen years ago, but you've updated it, and, uh, I think there are four new chapters in, in the, in the new paperback.

So I wanna focus on that.

I wanna, I wanna spend some time on, on how our thinking about cancer, uh, has changed in the interim.

And I think we'll break this into three chapters: prevention, detection, and, you know, treatment/cures.

But also you have an AI startup, which, um, I wanna talk about because, um, the utility of AI here in-- at any one of these stages, uh, is, uh, obviously something that people are, are, uh, hoping for.

And, um, I'm glad to see you're, you're trying to push that forward.

But let, let's start with just, like, kind of the basic conceptual framework and may- maybe how that's changed in the intervening years.
