532: Attacked with Ideas

[intro jingle] Well, David, I see you're back in your shop.

Mm.

And I half expected to see you, um, podcasting from a kayak this, this week.

Ooh.

Back here.

Oh, that would actually be amazing.

Yeah.

[laughs]

But you're back.

But I am, I am back, yeah.

We stayed up at the, uh, up at the lake for a week.

It was Kelly's birthday, so, um, we-- I, I didn't totally disconnect from work.

I was-- from work.

I was still editing and, and doing stuff and, and podcasting, but got some good time outside, some quality time with the wife, and, uh, uh, it was, it was fun.

Over at that other house, there's a garage that's not available to guests, and I started setting up a shop there when we first got the place.

And since then, it's just been a place to put stuff-

Yeah

... and it's been a disaster.

And I got it organized pretty, pretty darn good, and it's not completely ready.

It's not perfect.

You know how things always have to be perfect before you can actually use it.

[chuckles]

Um, but, uh, it's-- you can walk around in there now, and there's a, a, a laser cutter over there, and I needed to make some boxes, so I just used Maker...

What's that we- the website where you can-

Maker Case?

Maker Case, yeah.

And, uh, made a, made some boxes and cut some out of, out of some thin plywood, and so actually used it for-- I used the shop for its intended purpose, to make stuff.

That's cool.

It's a good idea for a shop.

[laughs] Yeah.

It's not just for looking at.

That's right.

[sighs] Well, that's cool.

It was good, good to have a break, good to have some time off or-

Yeah.

Yeah

... not time off, but, you know, different time.

Um, yeah.

It feels like it set me back a little bit.

It al- it always does, but I think everything feels like it sets me back.

I just gotta get out of the, the hurry, the, the mental hurry that I'm always-

Mm-hmm

... dealing with.

Do you feel like you're-- Like, since the, uh, since the show, and I know you were kinda, like, in a little slump after that-

Yeah

... or do you feel like that's starting to, I don't know, change, come, get different, better, back?

Uh, uh, back.

Um-

Cool

... mostly because there was a, there was, there was a little time off where I didn't get stuff-- I didn't-- I, I wasn't, like, focused on work, and so that helped.

And then plus, I got really lucky, and I got a bunch of sponsorship opportunities for August and September-

Mm

... which, uh, more than, uh, what I would normally do, but I could u- I need the money.

So, and-

Right

...

they were decent sponsorships, and I'm like, "And I'm gonna take them.

I'm gonna-- I'm just saying yes to everything right now." And there's no time to, t-to, to worry about inspiration or-

No time to wallow

... there's no time to wallow.

I, I just-- I-- We gotta get work done.

So that, that helped me get my out, out of my slump.

Emergencies make everything-

... better.

Yeah.

[laughs] That's a, that's a strange thing to say, but yeah.

Yeah.

I guess you're kinda right.

[laughs] Yeah.
