well and this speaks to larger europe and also the larger the world in general right now yeah a friend of mine um an albanian friend of mine uh reached out after i'd gotten home from reporting one night um and she asked uh you know if i thought that this was happening all over the world right now because it feels like it's happening all over the world right now and And she asked, you know, why I thought this was becoming such a common story right now.

And I think that part of this sort of change in global operating system that everybody feels to a certain extent is the fact that previously the largest and most powerful political unit really was the nation state.

But now that's decentralizing into a series of businesses, stronger nation states, weaker nation states.

So we're seeing these extractive policies play out in Albania where a chunk of protected resources in the Balkans can act as an investment vehicle for Saudi royal money.

And the only people who benefit off of that are the owners and the operators who don't live in Albania.

um this is why people are angry this is also why people are angry at data centers it's also why people are angry at the falling standards in french schools um so i think that that in the transition between one global financial operating system and another, you will see events like this where people just have a very intense understanding of how long they've been screwed for because it's being put into sharp relief given how successful others seem.
