On this week's show: We’ve rolled into a new season of Below Deck Med, one I was dreading, but it’s actually refreshing—for the franchise and reality TV. Plus: What Love Island USA and Survivor have…

Let's start today with Curtain Pull, in which I take a quick peek behind the scenes of a show.

It is Love Island USA season, meaning that almost every night of the week we're getting a new episode of hot dummies tonguing each other's faces, which is basically all the show is now, apparently, at least based on the first couple episodes.

I wrote a little piece about that just because I think the kissing is getting even grosser somehow.

Maybe it's just that they force them to kiss repeatedly during that first episode.

The fun fact I have for you about the production is that Love Island USA's resort where it's filming in Fiji is in fact the same one used for Survivor's Ponderosa.

As we've talked about before, Ponderosa is where Survivor players go before and after the game, so before the game starts and after they're voted out or when they're part of the jury.

It's basically a resort and a hotel or a tent city, depending upon the location.

Here, it's an actual resort and they hang out there and wait until they either leave to go home or, you know, make the decision on the jury and then go home from there.

This resort that Love Island USA is at is virtually unrecognizable because of the incredible production design that surrounds it.

Even the pool has like kind of a little bit of a new addition, like a little bit of an overhang.

Never mind all of the greenery and the neon and the colors and the couches and pillows and everything.

But we discovered this connection last year when Brandon Donlan, who is on Survivor, said on episode of his podcast Survivor 50 Files that the resort was used from seasons 43 to 46. and basically said that he recognized it because of the dock and the pool.

So he sat out on the dock and said that he cried on it after the game and that the pool was very recognizable because they all spent so much time in it.

Survivor moved its Ponderosa elsewhere, so it's no longer using the same place, which seems to be Love Island's semi-permanent, if not permanent home, kind of like Survivor itself was in Fiji permanently.

But kind of fun that all these shows are filming in the same location and that they actually shared a space at one point, although not at the exact same time.
