And one of the things that I shared with her is that once you do so much of work to undo and unravel these things that you thought you knew at one point in time or you believed in a certain way at one time and you start unraveling that trauma and you start healing from all of these things, you just see the world in a completely different way and it comes from a place of love.

I said, you know, because of things that happened when we were children and traumatic things What we end up doing over time is we develop this entire onion around our heart.

But the onion is so tightly wrapped around our heart, because we think that we're just doing that to protect ourselves.

But what it's actually doing is it's closing us off from ourselves and so what happens in that process is we have so much closed off in our hearts in the form of quote-unquote protection that we're hurting ourselves because it doesn't allow us to actually live life truly free that onion may be temporarily protecting us from hurt But long term, it's hurting us from living in our true potential, because we have everything so closed off.

And one of the things that has to happen in order for us to actually heal our bodies physically, spiritually, and emotionally is we need to start pulling that onion back.

But I remember this years ago, I was doing some mentoring with someone and I didn't realize this.

But this is very much also something that comes from growing up in the Amish community.

But this person told me like after the first call I had with this person, he said to me, he said, Lizzie, like you're like an onion.

things he had to ask me very specific questions to get to know who I really am and what's underneath the surface because he knew that I had potential and he saw that but he also saw how things were so close to off and I didn't realize that I really really didn't at the time and the thing is is you don't know what you don't know until you do know and so the reason that that happens a lot is because when you grow up the way that I did grow up is number one you were kind of told to just sit down shut up and be quiet don't ask questions especially as a young child so you go to church and you sit in a two to three hour church service you're not allowed to make a peep because You're supposed to be quiet in that church service as a five-year-old for two to three hours.
