Limited Resources 872 - Reality Fracture Set Review: Commons and Uncommons

Luis, a little bit of business to take care of before we jump into the cards.

First and foremost, big-picture view, what are the mechanics and archetypes like for Reality Fracture?

So it's funny.

They basically just have one mechanic.

[laughs]

[laughs]

But it's a big one, so it, we definitely wanna get out ahead of it and, uh, talk about it.

This is, I think, the most talked about part of the set.

The mechanic is called Empower Jace.

And so what Empower Jace means, and, uh, there's always a number in- involved, whether it's Empower Jace I, II, up 'til like VI.

Um, Empower Jace, when you do that, you put that many loyalty counters on a Jace token you control.

So, uh, they actually apparently did test it where you could just put it on any Jace, but it was a little too much with the existing Jace Planeswalkers.

So it says, "Put this many loyalty counters on a Jace token you control.

If you don't control a Jace token, you create one." And what the Planeswalker token does, at least in this set ...

They could, they could make new Jace tokens in the future if they really wanted to.

It's -3, draw a card, -1, surveil one.

So it's got two abilities.

They both only go down in loyalty, and they both, uh, give you a little bit of either card selection or just like a, a full-on card.

So let me give you an example of a card.

Uh, this is like a pretty basic one, Protege's Awakening.

It's three and a blue.

It's a sorcery.

It says, "Empower Jace VI and draw a card." So it's four mana, draw a card, make a six loyalty Jace, which you can then immediately -3 and draw another card.

You've drawn two cards, and you're left with three loyalty Jace, which kind of threatens to draw another card after that.

And there's also, like, two mana, +2/+2, a combat trick, Empower Jace 2.
