It's not my retirement.
Now, I've spent 20 years as a lawyer, two decades papering other people's deals.
I've negotiated warranties for things nobody on earth will ever sue over.
And I've spent countless hours arguing about the perfect definition of things like adverse weather.
But it occurred to me recently that the single biggest transaction of my life has no paperwork at all.
Because that is what next June is, if you look at it like a lawyer.
It's a transaction, two parties, a long-term arrangement and a material change of circumstances.
So let me do the thing I know how to do just once and run the issues list.

His employment decides where we're going to live.
Today, that's Singapore.
But I've already said on this show that at some point we will leave.
And the day we do, I travel on the back of his visa.
Point two, income.
Mine stops and his continues.
Point three, the calendar.
He'll still be working where I'll have ultimate freedom.
Point four, this is what I call the energy clause because who is responsible for making my days good? Because there is a version of this where I assume the answer is him.
And let me tell you now, that version ends badly.
Four issues, every one of them material.
And here's the kind of punchline.
It's the only deal I've ever done in my life that I would sign without reading.
I just think it's worth knowing what's in it.
