In this episode, we speak with playwright Heidi Kraay about a harrowing episode in her life in which she embarked on an ill-advised adventure under the influence of a man with the personality of a cult leader, but without the capital match, and how writing ultimately saved her. Heidi’s plays explore fragmented psyches, Cartesian dualism and synthesis, and the human condition and draw on the symbolic tools of myth, metaphor, and monstrosity. Her work has been supported by the Hemingway House, the Boise City Department of Arts and History, the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the Alexa Rose Foundation. She holds an MFA in Creative Inquiry, Interdisciplinary Arts from the California Institute of Integral Studies and teaches at Boise State University.
