Kelly FinkeGuestThe governing body voted in September to place a 5.8 cent special purpose sales tax question on the ballot for a mail ballot election on March 2nd, 2027.
If approved, it would replace the city's current one-eighth cent special purpose tax and provide funding for pipes, pavement, and public safety needs, specifically stormwater infrastructure, streets, and police and fire department needs.
The difference between the current tax and the proposed tax is 50 cents on every $100 in taxable purchases.
Chief Grove comes to Leawood after 28 years with Overland Park, where he most recently served as deputy chief of operations.
He officially took the helm September 8th, succeeding Chief Colin Fitzgerald, who retired this summer.
The governing body adopted the budget and the city's five-year capital improvement program in September.
The new budget keeps Leawood's mill levy at 23.5 mills, the same rate as this year, while continuing to fund city services and investments in infrastructure and other capital projects.
If you're someone who actually enjoys digging into municipal budgets, first of all, we appreciate you.
You can find much more information on the city's website at leawood.org. budget if leewoof dog park is part of your routine you may notice some limited access in the northern parts of the park over the next few weeks construction crews working on the nearby development need to make connections to the sanitary sewer system in that area so that work will temporarily affect access to portions of the dog park so the park is not completely closing but you may see temporary fencing signs in some areas that are off limits while that work is underway so maybe give your dog a heads up before you get there and that'll do it for this episode of leewood 360. as always please follow us on our various social media channels so you can find out what's happening in real time in the city of leewood we have our police fire leewood parks rec and arts and our citywide account on facebook and instagram so you could find those there as well as linkedin and nextdoor so follow us on our various social media channels And you could also subscribe to our newsletter to get monthly updates from the city of Leawood.
