Real Easy English: Talking about complaining

Um, Neil, in this episode of Real Easy English, we're talking about complaining.

That is when you say something is wrong or you have a problem and you want to tell someone about it, and I know that you have a recent experience with this, don't you?

Ah, yes.

Yeah.

I, um, I booked somewhere to stay on a trip, and the reviews were all really good, and then when I checked again, the reviews were all really bad [laughs].

Oh, no.

What were they about?

Uh, they said the place was dirty and things were broken.

Oh, no.

Mm.

What did you do? Have you been yet?

Not yet.

Oh.

No.

So what did you do?

I wrote to them.

I sent them an email to say I was worried.

Mm.

Um, and I asked them to assure me that the place would be clean and working properly.

Okay, and did you get a response?

I did, but I really hated the whole process [laughs].

Oh, no. Why?

Because I don't like complaining.

No, neither do I. I'm not very good at it.

I don't like to make people feel bad, even if there is a problem, and I've paid for something, and it should be a certain way, but it's not, it, and I'm entitled to complain, I still don't like it.
