Now, of course, ties between these two countries cannot be discussed without talking about the Shoah, the Holocaust that was carried out by Nazi Germany and its collaborators in World War II.

Now that, of course, has pushed the ties toward this special relationship as modern-day Germany continues to confront the lessons of that terrible period.

But there are, of course, other pressures and other interests in this relationship as well, some of them which push the countries closer together and some of which strain the relationship.

Germany has one of-- has been one of the most, uh, firm countries leading the European, the Western response against Russia, and that has caused Europe, and especially Germany, to rearm.

And just in December, we saw that whopping four point six billion dollar deal where Israel delivered officially Arrow 3 long-range ballistic missile defense systems to Germany.

Uh, just last week, we saw that Germany failed to secure a temporary seat on the powerful United Nations Security Council, and Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that it could be that Germany's support for Israel might have cost it support for that seat.

So to talk about all of these issues and many more around the Germany-Israel relationship, we are going to talk to a friend of ours and someone who many of you might have heard of, Ambassador Steffen Seibert.
