Away we go! You'd be forgiven for believing that Wonder Jungle is full of the friendliest, furriest animals imaginable.
There are some animals who are not so friendly, not so furry, and not so cute.
And there are even creatures, so they say, so shrouded in mystery that nobody knows what they really are.
Rumors from those that have glimpsed such creatures only speak, in hushed whispers, of sharp teeth and pointed claws and red eyes that glint in the darkness.
There had even been, from time to time, an intrepid explorer who had gone venturing into the depths of the jungle and never came back.
That's what Prickles the Hedgehog read about in a book, which he got out of the Sleepy Forest Elementary School library when he learned that they were going on a field trip to Wonder Jungle to learn all about the animals that lived there.
At first, he'd been awfully excited, but then reading that book had left him feeling, well, a little nervous.
Now, as they crept through the undergrowth, pushing curtains of vines out of the way, every time he heard a noise his ears would prick up and his head would flick to the side.
But it was never anything frightening, just a twig snapping underfoot or a bird twittering in the treetops.
The class was trekking single file through the rainforest, Up ahead, Prickles could see the familiar dusky orange backpack of his pal Coco, the shifting rainbow skin of Camo the Chameleon, and right at the front, Miss Bushytail's bright green cap.
Miss Bushytail was probably the coolest teacher at school, a lively squirrel who taught not only cheerleading and geography, but jungle exploring too.
Soon, they emerged into a clearing, and Miss Bushytail told them to form an orderly line.
"'So, why do you think I've brought us here to this clearing today, class?' she asked.
Oh, is it the nest of some rare and exotic bird? Camo asked, pointing at a clump of twigs and leaves balancing up on a high branch.
