Michael KitcesHostMy favorite definition, and we all can define financial planning however we want, but my favorite definition and the type of financial planning that I'm most interested in is this never-ending process of helping people align.
I'm thinking in a Venn diagram right now, like helping people align their use of capital in one circle.
There's always an asterisk by use of capital, and the asterisk is money energy, time, and attention.
So that circle, your use of capital, And the other circle is what's important to you.
So the alignment, like aligning your use of capital with what's important to you is my favorite version.
You could call your use of capital your money, and you could call what's important to you your life if you wanted to.
I mean, I don't know what the right word is, thrilled and stoked about lately, is how much fun it is to spend time trying to figure out what's important to you.
And really, for the sake of what we're talking about, it's so much fun to help other people try to figure out what's important to them.
And so, in fact, there's a great David White in one of his books, and I can't remember which one right now, says, only slowly do we learn what we really care about and allow our outer lives to be aligned with that gravitational pull.
So this process of figuring out – and the reason I've been so stoked about it and so intrigued is because it feels like almost like a crisis of meaning.
