These people are haaaaangry! Somebody should do something! We’d love to hear from you.
[upbeat music] Jesus had been teaching and healing people all over the land.
Everywhere He went, people followed Him because they had heard about the amazing miracles He had done, making sick people feel better, calming storms, and even raising people from the dead.
[upbeat music] Now, on the morning of that morning, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee with His disciples.
He was tired from all the teaching and healing, and He wanted a quiet place to sit down and sleep and pray.
But when Jesus and His disciples got there, a huge crowd of people were already there.
More than 5,000 people, men, women, and children, had walked a long way just to see Jesus.
"Woo-hoo, Jesus," the crowd shouted, "You're the best.
Please teach us." [laughs] When Jesus looked at the crowd, He didn't get upset or tell them to go home.
He felt love for them.
He saw that they were like sheep without a shepherd, needing care and guidance.
[upbeat music] So He taught them about God's kingdom, did some healing, and showed them what kindness really looked like.
What a great guy.
As the day got later and later, the disciples came to Jesus and said, "Hey, Jesus, it's getting late.
We're in the middle of nowhere.
These people need to eat.
Send them away so that they can go find food.
We're all getting hangry." [laughs] But Jesus had a different idea.
"I hear you," He said, "But how about this? You give them something to eat." The disciples were so confused.
They were like, "How can we feed all these people? That will cost more money than we have." Then Andrew, one of the disciples, said, "Hey, Jesus, there's a boy here with a small lunch, five loaves of bread and two fish." The loaves were just small, flat pieces of bread, like little rolls, and the fish were tiny, just like tiny dried fish.
It was a simple meal for one little boy.
Jesus smiled.
"That's enough.
Tell the people to sit down." So everyone sat down on the grassy hillside, all 5,000 of them.
The disciples looked around at all the people.
How could one small lunch feed so many? "Should we tell Jesus that this is a little crazy?" asked one of the disciples.
