[upbeat music] Throughout the land, a really mean king named Herod made a law that said everyone has to go back to their hometown to be counted so they could keep track of all the people.
It was called a census.
And a very pregnant Mary and her now husband Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, their hometown.
But when they got there, it was so full of people that there was no place to stay.
Every inn was full.
By the way, an inn is like a hotel.
Now you know.
Mary and Joseph walked all over town to find somewhere to stay the night.
They started knocking on doors.
Knock, knock, knock.
[horse neighing] "Sorry, no room," [upbeat music] said the first innkeeper.
Slam.
[door slamming] And they shut the door in their faces.
How rude.
They tried another one.
Knock, knock, knock, knock.
[horse neighing] "What do you want?" said the second innkeeper.
"A place to stay," said Joseph.
"We're full.
Go away," replied the innkeeper.
And they shut the door.
Slam.
[door slamming] Double rude.
And now there was even a bigger problem than finding a place to stay.
Baby Jesus was ready to come out of Mary's belly.
