Kelsey - A Staff Member's Story at the Roger Maris Cancer Center

My name is Kelsey and I'm a clinical care coordinator and registered nurse on the Roger Maris inpatient unit and

I've been there for six

years.

I am inspired to work at Roger Maris because it gives me a continued sense of fulfillment.

We take care of a lot of patients, a majority of which are patients who come back for continued treatments, long stays, and life-changing therapies.

When I say that our patients are the best, I truly mean it.

These people are going through the worst time in their entire lives and they still give so much.

Most of the time, touch and we form deep bonds with both them and their families.

We have done step challenges, played pig with basketballs in patients' rooms, participated in patients' TikTok videos, put on dance shows for starting and completing chemo treatments, and some of my favorite memories are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries to help make their stay feel a little bit more normal when they are missing events because of their treatments or complications.

We get to share the big moments with people and I think that's what's so special.

When I think about caring for patients at Roger Maris, I constantly remind myself that no hard day can ever damper the light that these patients bring to the nursing staff.

I want to give the biggest thank you to those that continue to support Roger Maris because it means continued quality care for the people we care about most.
