Ep. 222: Are You Challenging Your Dog?

Good morning.

Today we are asking the question, are you challenging your dog?

And this is

not in a good way.

Yes.

This is a listener requested episode.

So they were hoping that we could expand on it, what it looks like to challenge a dog, both from the human behavior side and how... a dog can perceive that challenge, that behavior, whatever you're doing, and how it could affect that dog's behavior and even relationship and some things to do instead in some certain common circumstances.

Because as they were listening to some of our other episodes, they Realize that they were thinking, you know, are there times that they were challenging their own dogs and didn't even realize it? And when might this be happening and how they can do things differently to create a better environment?

Yeah.

And a lot of people don't realize it.

A lot of people don't realize what actually challenges dogs or dogs see as a challenge.

Maybe, you know, and again, this is because their world is different.

Their communication is different.

They interact with each other differently than they interact with us.

We're rude as a species.

Yeah.

And that's where a lot of people can inadvertently be challenging.

So then you might be irritated with your dog's behavior.

Not knowing that it's happening because of a challenge you might have put out there a few minutes ago.

Right.

And, you know, the age old saying, well, my dog should just tolerate it.

Yeah.

Get over it.

Whatever.

Right.
