What is an operational assessment and what is it not? Let's start by clearing up some confusion.

An operational assessment is not an audit It's not a strategic plan or a program evaluation, although this is important and it can inform on all three.

At its core, an operational assessment is a systematic evaluation of how your organization operates on a day-to-day basis in finance, in people, systems, policies, workflows, and decision-making.

Does the way we operate today still support the mission we're trying to achieve? Many boards ask, why do we need an operational assessment? We're growing.

You then get married, have a kid, add a room, have another kid, add another room, then add another floor to the house, and then extend the garage to accommodate more cars.

If the foundation and structure aren't reinforced, you won't see the problem until something collapses.
