**In this episode, we’ll look at the rain and wind that is moving in from the upcoming northeaster. We also have some updates on the track and timing.**
It's Friday, September 25th, and we had another day of a windy northeast flow, more clouds than sun, and the surf is continuing to build.
Now, we have a new moon tonight.
And sure enough, we do have tidal issues.
You may have noticed earlier in the evening, we had a lot of rainbows around the area.
This was really due to some Virga precipitation evaporating before it reached the ground.
We did have fairly dry air in place from that.
that area of high pressure.
But the rain has begun.
We have a lot of rain that has now come onshore across most of the area.
And it's occasionally heavy, although most of it is on the light to moderate side.
And we're going to continue to see bands of that.
So we've got low pressure finally off the mid-Atlantic coast.
And models keep bringing this low further west.
Eventually, it looks like the center of this is going to hook just south of Long Island and make a landfall, if you will, in central New Jersey.
So, looks like the worst of the impacts are are going to occur throughout the area as opposed to being just relegated to eastern sections so this rain is going to last on and off into monday afternoon and sunday may potentially be as bad as saturday with these bouts of moderate to heavy rain there will be some dry slots but We're looking for a widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain and occasionally might see a spot where we get up to 5.
But this is coming over the course of about 72 hours.
Now, we also may see some deformation banding that could briefly create rainfall rates of a half an inch to an inch an hour.
So maybe some spotty freshwater flooding.
It has been wet as of late as well.
Now, this low's strength in its circulation is going to continue to produce windy conditions tonight looking for gusts up to 45 miles in and around the boroughs to potentially up to 60 miles per hour out east so it also wouldn't rule out any power outages especially as the soil becomes moister with these gusty winds trees may become unstable now last but certainly not least Those winds combined with the full moon, high tides, and the fact that this is a protracted event is going to produce coastal flooding at times of high tide right through Sunday evening and have a coastal flood warning in effect area-wide.
And at times of high tide, we could see some places with three feet of inundation.
So you know if your street floods.
If your street floods, you need to move your car.
High tide cycles do vary considerably across the island.
