After a heartbreaking Grand Final loss in 2025, Lake Albert are back for another crack at the trophy, up against Griffith City. Coach of Lake Albert joined The Wooden Spooners to preview the match…
Chris AytonGuestLeighHostJamieHostHow are you, mate? Yeah,
guys.
Mate, very quickly, before we have a look at what's happening this week, I know it's been 10 days now.
90th minute winner for Adil Suleiman to put you into the grand final and defeat a team that's had the wood on you a bit this year.
How are the vibes in the changing rooms after the game?

It was RIV Cup last year and then RIV Cup final this year and then two round games.

And I feel like the best we've done is around that 6-2 mark, I think, for a final score.
Mate, it looked like coming into that game and watched a little bit of you guys in first grade this year, there were a couple of tactical changes that you made.
What had you talked about in the lead up to the match and what did you do to turn those results around?

Look, I mean, as coaches, you can change everything that you can do, but it does come down to the boys on the pitch on the night, I think.

When you think you've got nothing left in the tank, you've got to find some more and empty that too.

It would have been really easy for them to get their heads down after going two goals down in the first 15.

But look, to their credit, they were heads down, butt up, and they kept grinding and kept themselves in the game.

So, yeah, really proud of just that grittiness and that effort and to not drop their heads because it would have been easy to do after the last four games that we've played them at.
