In this episode, Kevin Hard reveals why the best leaders don’t manage people through authority – they build trust through care, humility, and everyday behaviours that make people feel valued and…
You've often spoken about invisible leadership.
Can you explain what that means and why it is often more influential than the leadership people can see?
Yeah, it's something, and I've done this on stage, and a few people are looking and saying, well, I got people up on stage, and we're walking around people, and where's the leader? Where's the leader? So just because you've got a badge on your chest or a star on your forehead as a leader, it doesn't make you a leader, again, as I said before.
I was working with, again, an international organization, and It's so important, as I said before, and I keep saying it, leadership is at every level.
So this organization, if you can picture it, had four of these leaders or managers, as they were called.
We were talking about all this engaging, how we should engage with our staff and listen to them and join them and just understand what they're about.
And what happened is three of those managers out of the four, once a month, at the end of the factory, to talk to their people, talk to them, weren't listening to them.
One manager, who I think is a fantastic leader, he parked his car there every morning and he walked through the factory to see his people, to listen to his people, to be there with them.
The invisible leaders are the ones that aren't there anymore, but they're leaders, aren't they? They've got the certificates, but they've driven around to the office every day.
