Euro Space Agency chief Aschbacher: How to close the space investment gap

If you want to understand the big picture of European space, there's one person whose job it is to hold all of that together.

Dr. Josef Aschbacher is Director General of the European Space Agency.

That's the institution that leads on European space exploration and technology.

It also coordinates the programs of its 23 member states and increasingly acts as a bridge between public investment and private industry.

When I talked to Dr. Aschbacher, I wanted to understand how Europe represents such a large share of global GDP and yet invests so much less in space than the United States.
