"'Look in here,' Inbar says, showing Lena to the transparent booth.
"'We call this the Cube.' Lena puts her nose up to the see-through wall.
Inside of the cube is a large open trough.
It's filled with what looks like ground beef submerged in a viscous pudding that's glowing light pink.
Seeds, Enbar says.

Lena furrows her brow and stares deeper at the trough.
Seeds? Lena asks.
That stuff is alive? Inbar makes that humming sound.
Hmm.
Lena feels the woman's gaze on her cheek.
Well, that's a tricky question,
Inbar replies.
Each seed is a supercomputer built on top of a single strand of hepatitis C.
So they grow into something? Yes.
They grow and compete with each other, Until one of them evolves into what we want, Inbar says, then points to the scar on the left side of her mouth and adds, We hope.
Lena notices a panel fixed to the wall of the cube.
A transparent shield covers a console.
What's that? Two switches, Inbar says.
One is a kill switch.
I suppose you could say that the other one grants permission to live.
Let's go downstairs, the general says.
They're waiting for us.
