Yeah, really, really great question because it can get really confusing because to be clear, what we're feeling, the emotion, the physiology, and often the certainty in what we're feeling and what we need to do is 100%.
The emotion that often feels so big and we're so certain about that sometimes we can gaslight ourself or we've been gaslighted sometimes by well-meaning into others who are saying it's not that big of a deal, right? Because to them, physiologically, it's not.
That doesn't make it any less of a big deal because physiologically to us in these moments, it is hard to know.
And regardless of if it's coming from our inner child or our adult, the feeling is real.
So when I share this, this isn't to gaslight or to diminish or to suggest that our feelings are important.
That might not be clear to me in the moment, because I can't tell you how many moments where I have a seemingly, what I come to define as a more minor irritation that feels really major in a moment.
I give my body some time to slow and deepen my breath, to slow my movements, to maybe take a walk around the block.
And then I can actually shift and be like, okay, what felt really big, now that I have a little perspective, I can put it kind of in its place.
When we feel 100% And especially when, right, somewhere down the line, once we've calmed down, we gain a new perspective.
It goes back to being a four or five instead of the 10 that we were certain it was.
Like when we are sure that that's how we're feeling and we can't have any flexibility, there's no other possibility.
We can maybe hear our thoughts even begin to say all or nothing, always, never.
