ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg on the Syracuse Orange: 'They are going to be interesting'

You know, we mentioned, uh, like, the, you know, how much money, uh, Syracuse has in its budget f- for Gerry now compared to Adrian.

What's the, what's the, m- [sighs] what, is there a number that y- that a school needs, that a basketball program needs in order to make the NCAA tournament?

I mean, part of the number's dic- dictated by, uh, the market.

Uh, part of it's dictated by, you know, you gotta get lucky with a, you know, you can get lucky with a player.

Okay.

You know what I mean? Like, get lucky and get a guy under value.

You g- a player, you can retain a guy that maybe has some loyalty.

But yeah, I mean, like, I don't know about to make the NCAA tournament, 'cause there'll be mid-majors that'll make the NCAA tournament.

There might be a second team in, like, an A10 that'll make the tournament.

But like, like, VCU spent $15 million.

Hmm.

All right? I mean, it's, you know, they have, uh, probably between $12 and $15 million.

I mean, that's, that's re- that's real money, you know? So I mean, like, you know, there are certainly, I mean, you know, people say, "Is, is Gonzaga a mid-major?" I mean, what are they spending? You know what I mean? You know, so I mean, like, yeah, I mean, is there a ma- is there a magic number? And hey, now there are some guys who are gonna spend that money and not make the tournament too.

You know?

Right.

Because if you make bad decisions and you don't do a good job then you waste your money.

Mm-hmm.

I mean, like, here's the deal.

Right? And I'm gonna put this thing in real.

I had my, I had my coach's breakfast, carrying coach's breakfast for the B Foundation yesterday, and I, I, I use this as an example.

I- if you're paying a kid $6 million, that guy's making 200,000 a game.

Let me say that again.

Wow.

He's making 200,000 a game.

If you're paying a kid a million dollars, he's making 32,000 a game.
