Strong Disciples | Ps Jonah Peacock

So Jesus charges his disciples to go and make more disciples of Jesus.

There's the 11 right before him and he's like, go and make more of yourselves followers of me all over the world.

And I think there's kind of two parts to that probably.

There's just the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ so that people would know him and put their faith in him and their lives and their eternities would be changed.

But also the ongoing ministry of helping those new followers of Jesus, those new disciples to follow him.

It's clear that he means that because he says, I have to make disciples and baptize them and teach them to observe and obey what I've commanded you.

So it's not like a one conversation thing.

It's like a life thing.

Yeah? And last week, oh my goodness, Pastor Belinda in her message in the morning gave a great outline of the multifaceted nature of discipleship.

We receive from those around us.

We grow what God has entrusted to us, and we intentionally strengthen those who come behind us.

This is all discipleship.

It's not just one thing.

It's multifaceted.

And Christ gives a mission.

so that, what, this life-changing, eternity-shifting power of the gospel, what He did on the cross, so it reaches the nations of the world.

That's what He's doing.

He's trying to get the Word out.

But also, the way that He says it is to make it so it's not just 11 guys on a hill in Galilee, like 2,000 years ago, that have to do that.

No, go and make disciples pass on the baton.

And we're here because of that, because they were faithful to that.

Otherwise, it would only be like a few people back then and then it would be done.

No, we're still receiving the benefit of their faithfulness.

Paul says in Romans 10, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news.
