05 Fresh Wind

When I thought about the songs to chat with you about the first one, I remember you singing Was Fresh Wind.

And that's what we're going to talk about first.

First of all, I didn't really like the song.

I first heard it because I wasn't connecting anything to it.

Singing worship or being on a worship team is still so new to me.

Now to you and some other people, you've been doing this for a very long time.

You know what? Less time than you probably think.

I mean, I started leading worship at Fellowship in 2015 when my husband and I got married.

And then I didn't join staff permanently to then lead worship every week until 2015.

2017, after I had Isaac, my son, and then I decided not to go back to teaching and make a shift into a different lane.

And my background was not leading worship at my church where I grew up.

We did hymns in a more traditional style.

And so the idea of leading worship is so different than just singing.

Singing

is

a beautiful gift, but leading worship is so much deeper because you are leading people into the presence.

And so that's been something I've learned.

And God has just been constantly like peeling back layers for me.

How do I go from... like you said, singing a song that maybe I don't always connect with to actually understand what is God trying to speak to me through this song.

And that's where the element, I think, of like leading comes in because God needs to lead me first.

He can outpour from the overflow to lead his people.

So there has to be a filling of us first.

Enter diving into scripture.

Yeah,

and that's why I had just such a disconnect.
