Welcome back to In a Glimpse, a podcast where we talk about the emotion of awe and its relationship to design.

Today brings us to the last research episode as I reflect on my conversations with Heather, Daryl, and Ida.

My individual conversations with these three guests share far more than I could get to today, so I encourage you to listen to those full conversations if you haven't yet.

Throughout this season, we've been weaving together several threads between awe, design, and technology, and today's episode is my attempt to connect them all.

We started out by exploring how technology can promote awe through immersion, and how alternatively mediated experiences can dampen our capacity for discovery.

In the second research episode, we looked at how the integration of technology into our lives can quietly shift our mindsets and behaviors, which led us into the discussion of intentional friction and reflection within tech-driven processes.

Amid all of this, we talked about the ideas of assimilation and accommodation, and how experiences of awe require that our mental schemas be expanded, producing what's called the small self, and how time pressure and technology fight against this.

I ended the last research episode with the promise that I'd come back and talk about how awe helps us to disentangle from the negative influences on our creative and collective mindsets.

So this is where I'll be focusing today, but I first want to give a brief review of where we left off from the last research episode specifically.
