Dr. Laurence Jose is a professor of writing and the director of the Digital Studies program at Grand Valley State University, where she teaches courses in professional writing, visual design, and digital studies.
Laurence earned her PhD in rhetoric and technical communication from Michigan Tech University.
Her research interests include digital literacy, communication in global context, semiotic theory, data humanism, and program administration.
Laurence's work has been published in various edited collections and in French linguistics journals.
Currently, Laurence is co-leading a university-wide initiative for expanding digital literacy across the curriculum at Grand Valley State University.
Vinicius Lima is a designer and associate professor of graphic design and foundations at Grand Valley State University.
Vinicius is passionate about creating engaging experiences that see design as a comprehensive practice, integrating various systems that influence a designer's work.
He holds an MFA and MA in design with a minor in photography from the University of Iowa and a bachelor of architecture and urban design from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Vinicius has received multiple awards from design organizations for his work.
Currently, Laurence and Vinicius are spearheading a university-wide initiative here at our university that's seeking to expand digital literacy across the curriculum.
I think for listeners, it would be great for us to just set the stage in context of defining digital literacy and how you both through this endeavor have been seeking to expand it.
