Yeah, I think it started back, maybe five years ago, I wrote a post called like build versus buy.

And I think AI has just accelerated the ability to build, but the principles still exist there, right? It's really fun to build.

Once you've gotten over the excitement of building, there is the component of maintenance, which is equally as important for the company to be successful with whatever it is you're building.

And so if it's not mission critical, you tend, you know, the first bit is easy to build and then you're not going to maintain it.

It's easy to build, but who's maintaining this? Who's owning this? In six months from now, when sales comes and asks me about this number from this dashboard that you built, are you going to answer it? Am I going to answer it? you know what about when there's data drift and so it's really easy to build up that spin up that really cool dashboard it's really easy to spin up that cool workflow but when it breaks in six months we're actually worse off and so it's thinking through that past that kind of dopamine hit of building and like what is this mission critical are we going to get value is there a tool that is going to cost less per month than the tokens it costs to build

And so you have to think about all these things of, you know, is it mission critical? Who's owning it? Who's maintaining it? And is it actually cost effective? Because there is a cost to AI.
Not just tokens, the maintenance and the tech debt that kind of builds up there.
I feel like the folks in marketing ops and rev ops are super well positioned for situations like this because we have been the folks in teams that have had to say no many times in our careers.
And it's just like the bane of existence for MarTech folks, right? Like a new tool comes up, everyone has shiny object syndrome, like we have to do this, we have to do that.
And you have to constantly remind people like, yo, we have these two things that do very something similar.
So like we've been saying no already, but I'm curious to ask you like with, all this AI stuff and people wanting to build, like you don't want to discourage people.
And, you know, until people know, like, don't flex your muscles and like, don't, don't go learn how to do this yourself and build this yourself.
So you actually wrote about like how to do that kindly and like pushing back without killing anyone's energy.
