Made in America robots: 3X more expensive than China?

Making humanoid robots in America will cost 3X more than robots from China, according to a new report by OpenMind. In this episode, John Koetsier talks with Jan Liphardt, founder and CEO of OpenMind and professor of bioengineering at Stanford, about the global race to build and deploy physical AI. OpenMind’s new Physical AI Readiness Index looks at which countries have the manufacturing base, supply chains, hardware expertise, AI capabilities, and industrial clusters required to scale advanced robotics. China currently leads the rankings, followed by Japan and the United States. One of the biggest challenges for U.S. robotics companies: building a humanoid robot without Chinese suppliers could cost nearly 3X as much. Another big problem: lack of concentration.
