At United Way of King County, we're working tirelessly to fulfill our vision of a community where all people thrive.

That work would not be possible without partners who share our passion for and commitment to ensuring that our neighbors have a quality education, enough to eat, access to resources, and a safe place to call home.

One of those partners is Symetra Financial Corporation, a Bellevue-based diversified financial services company.

Symetra has partnered with United Way for more than 15 years through programs such as Bridge to Finish, which helps students at local colleges get the services they need to stay in school and complete their education.

According to a 2022 article by the independent news organization The Conversation, 53% of community college students in the US left school early because of tuition and fees, and 48% left early due to cost of living expenses.

Symetra's recent funding to United Way supports our Bridge to Finish emergency grant services for 100 students pursuing degrees or certificates at local colleges.

Many of those served by Bridge to Finish include first-generation college students, parenting students, and students grappling with housing and financial instability.

Bridge to Finish offers support via benefits hubs on college campuses where students can access not only emergency cash grants, but food, clothing, housing support, and tax filing assistance.

Symetra's support has not only helped United Way fulfill our vision of thriving communities, but it's enabled college students to realize their dreams of earning degrees and pursuing productive careers.

That aligns with Symetra's goals of strengthening our communities by targeting resources toward underserved women, youth, and students.

Symetra was launched in 1957 and currently has five and a half million customers and more than 3,200 employees nationwide.

Symetra provides employee benefits, annuities, and life insurance through a national network of benefits consultants, financial institutions, and independent agents and advisors.

Symetra also strives to create long-term positive change in communities through a combination of corporate and employee giving and a commitment to volunteerism.
