Today, our episode is gonna be all about dates and how often we should be dating our longterm partners.
The reason that this came up is because Drew and I were going on a date last week, and I was telling Abby, "You know what? Honestly, we have just not been going on dates."
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
We haven't been prioritizing them.
Like, we used to have a rule for ourselves when our kids were younger that we would go on one date a month.
That was our standard for ourselves, and we would really try to be thoughtful and plan that out.
Now where we are in our lives, it just, you know, we don't, we don't think about it as much.
We don't plan it as much, and we'll get into that later.
But I have some thoughts on, like, why that is and why it is actually working for us.
But we thought this was a really interesting conversation.
We took it to Instagram, and we learned that, I mean, the majority of the people were in my shoes.
I think-
Mm-hmm
...
it was like 90% of people said they don't even go on once-a-month dates.
So we're gonna get into all that.
But when we find an interesting topic, one thing we like to do is research it.
So Abby researched what is a date, how often are we supposed to be dating, all of this, and she's gonna share that.
Well, and I thought it was so interesting, too, because we looked at each other, and we also had questions about it.
We were like, "Wait.
What do you constitute as a date?" is different than, than what I do.
Colin and I even had a conversation about it.
And it was also interesting because the Gottman Institute put out a blog post that day all about dating your longterm partner, so I was able to use some of their research in the blog, some of their hyperlinks, and then some of what the hyperlinks went to the hyperlinks.
So what do they say is the gold standard? Number one, a weekly date.
