It's Gettin' Better (Man!!)

Let's take the week chronologically if we can then.

First to Motherwell on Tuesday night, a venue that we didn't score at, let alone avoid defeat during the last couple of seasons.

And to face a home side who had made an encouraging start under meet the new manager the same as the old manager, Alfred Johansson.

Martin Clunas, let's start with you.

Fairly predictable team news in that the three changes made were three of the substitutes who'd made the biggest impact and performed very effectively at Kilmarnock.

Yeah, it was.

I mean, I think it's something everybody said before, where you don't change something that's worked.

And so it made sense to pretty much to go with that.

Obviously, there was the, well, I mean, I know people will argue about it.

It was the three at the back, the five at the back, whatever.

I'll let other people argue about what it is.

um it's what you know i think it's what robinson's been been dying to do um and it's you know it's it's starting to pay off for him to be fair um so who are idiots like me to criticize um but no no no not really not really disappointed with any of the the subs or the lineup you know i mean we know that pretty much who's going to be in as ever presence.

Finlay Marshall starting was great, absolutely deserved his opportunity.

You know, I think everybody wants to, we've said this before, everybody wants to see young players that have come through the club, you know, making an impact and getting opportunities.

And he thoroughly deserved it.

And he, you know, he had a good game as well, which, you know, Brilliant.

It stakes his claim for more time.

Obviously, I mean, we might come in later, but there was chat about him perhaps going out on loan at some point.

And that was obviously that was talked down by the manager.

Brilliant.

That means he's way more in Robinson's plans than probably most of us actually realised, which was great to see.

Yeah, it probably won't surprise you that we probably will come back to Stanley Marshall a little bit later, particularly maybe when we talk about the second goal, because he was heavily involved in that.

But until the goal started flowing Martin Ingram I thought the first half hour we did really struggle to impose ourselves on Motherwell and we're quite careless with the ball ourselves they were able to escape from our press fairly comfortably in that opening half hour and often able to bait a number of our men and particularly a number of our more central players and I'm probably looking at Iremu here over at one side of the pitch before successfully switching and leading to an overload on the other side of the pitch.

However, there was a slight uncertainty about them and a lack of directness, by which I don't mean long, high balls.

I mean, heading towards goal in the shortest number of touches possible, which is something that Motherwell last season were exceptionally good at, which meant that we were broadly able to keep them playing in front of us and not open us up.
