No Mid-Wits in Heaven?, preached on October 16, 2026
Robert McTeigueHost
We're all educators, aren't we? We've all spent a good deal of time in school trying to be learned.

So what are we to do? Have we wasted all of our time trying to be learned? Have we made a mistake being educators? Is our Lord prizing ignorance? Well, no.

But this did bother me, and I started thinking around, because I said, you know, I think I've read something that could address this.

And I thought of Father Robert Hugh Benson, and you might all think, oh yes, of course, his novella, Lord of the World, which is something that I do recommend.

and this line i think helps us to understand what our lord said in the gospel today father benson writes it's the half educated as usual who's the enemy he always is The wise men and the shepherds both knelt in Bethlehem.

So it means that the people who really miss the mark are the half-witted and the half-hearted.

Those who think they know more than they do, those who think they love more than they are capable, those are the ones who miss the mark.

Those who have the wisdom and the heart to recognize that God can come to them with the majesty of a king and the innocence of a child and the generosity of a desperately needed savior, those will kneel at Bethlehem.
