It was then rearranged and rebranded as Medicare by the Hawke government back in the early 80s.

So legislation has been around for over 50 years now, which keeps on getting updated and modified.

So it really is designed to be acting like an insurance company for the country? Well,

it's an insurance act that's delivered essentially as an insurance fund for the population of Australia for medical services.

It is based on that act, but it is essentially an insurance policy in which we pay a percentage of our income through taxpayers as our insurance levy for that fund.

And it's also probably important to note that the services that are funded by Medicare can't be funded by private insurance.
