In the last episode, we talked about signs, those meaningful moments that seem to arrive at exactly the right time.

A feather appearing in your path, a song playing just when you need to hear it, a familiar scent that suddenly reminds you of someone you love, or, as I shared in that episode, asking my mom to please throw me a bone and then watching a large pair of plastic angel wings wash out of the ocean and land right at my feet.

Signs may be all around us, but how do we actually receive and interpret the information they carry? Sometimes a sign may feel like an angel wink, a gentle hello from someone we love.

I’m still with you." But other times a sign may seem to carry something more, a nudge, an answer, a confirmation, or an invitation to pay attention.

So how do we receive not only the sign itself, but the meaning within it? And how do we know when we are sensing something intuitively and when our thinking mind is trying to create an explanation? To understand that, let’s begin with something familiar, how we normally experience the world.

We smell, we taste, and through a combination of those senses, our experience, and our thinking mind, we begin to understand what is happening around us.

The difference is that the information may enter our awareness without an obvious physical source.

You may see an image in your mind even though there is nothing in front of your eyes.

Or you may simply know something without being able to explain how you know it.

It is as though our familiar senses have an intuitive counterpart, another way of receiving and interpreting information.

The claires describe different ways intuitive information may come into our awareness.

Others may receive information through a scent or even a taste that doesn’t appear to have a physical source.
