The biggest thing is the-- there's a new earnings limit.
Every single year, not every year, but as inflation goes up, the amount you can earn and still receive your first supplement or Social Security without any reductions goes up.
It used to be about twenty-four something, right, twenty, twenty-four thousand four eighty.
It is now twenty-five five sixty.
Now, if you're not familiar with what this means, the first supplement, if you're not familiar, as long as you only have retirement style income like pension, TSP, rental income, that sort of thing, then you can get your first supplement with no reductions at all.
But if you have a part-time job, a business, what they call earned income, and you have more than twenty-five thousand of it, then they're gonna actually take some of your first supplement and reduce it and just take some of it away, okay? Now, the same earnings test applies for Social Security as well.
They, they both apply.
For Social Security, it only applies between sixty-two and your full retirement age, which is about sixty-seven or so.
After you're sixty-seven, there's no earnings limit.
But of course, if you are still working and making a good income, probably don't take Social Security during this range.
Now, in the year you reach sixty-seven, you can actually make more.
You can make up to sixty-seven thousand.
All this to say, if you're gonna work a job, a business, whatever, and you're gonna make s- more than this, twenty-five thousand, then you gotta be careful.
They're gonna start taking away some of your other income.
And this is actually how it works.
For every two dollars you earn over this limit, they're gonna reduce your supplement or Social Security by a dollar.
So if you're ten thousand over, so for example, if you make thirty-five grand, that's ten thousand over the limit, ten thousand over the limit, that means the next year they're gonna reduce your supplement or your Social Security by five thousand.
So you definitely want to keep this in mind.
