If you're enjoying our dive into the world of folklore and want more, I suggest you listen to The Singing Porch, an original folklore anthology podcast from the kind people over at Talefolk Productions.
The Singing Porch is a magical place where stories creak and whisper from under the floorboards, with each episode lovingly brought to life with award-winning sound design and music.
Fifteen minutes with The Singing Porch will wake up your imagination for the rest of the day.
[birds chirping] At the end of all roads, between an end and a beginning, in a wild and wide-open plain, sits a small house with a small porch that feels like home.
[gentle music] Delicate arches twist with worn, weird old wood.
Blankets cover most of the chairs, leftover from last night or the night before.
Everything just like how you left it.
The wind whistles.
[floorboards creaking] The porch creaks.
Not creak as much as stretch, hum, as if all that old wood was just waking up.
And there's a slight tingle in the air, as if the house was not watching, but gazing into you.
So if you take that first step onto the porch, the floorboards will sound their answer beneath your feet.
When you cross over to the armchair in the corner, the floorboards will sing after each step, each floorboard whispering of a different place.
From all over, spirits or memories maybe, come to roost here.
We don't know where they come from.
We don't know why they stay.
But they stay here on the porch, hidden amongst the floorboards.
So when you settle into that armchair where the wind itself feels bright, you'll hear every piece of wood giving its overture.
And if you listen close, you can almost make out their voices.
And if you listen really close-
Turn the lights off
... you'll hear it begin.
