Anna Rubin’s practice combines making, material knowledge, and the laws of flight. Her kites are made from foil emergency blankets, a material designed to protect against wind, rain, and cold…

My name is Anna Rubin and I'm a kite maker and I make also installations with kites.
Could you describe your work in the Art in the Sky exhibition?

So the kind of creative process which starts making the kite is not finished when the kite is done.

when you do an installation because it's kind of continuing when I put the kites in the space.

And for me it's like shaping a kind of floating sculpture together with the space.

and I brought these disc kites for the installation here and it's a kite which is made from rescue foil and the construction I do from bamboo I split and it's a kite which is for very soft wind and what I tried to do in the installation to show how the wind is kind of shaping this kite because when it's not flying it's flat But when the kite is flying and the wind gives pressure on the surface, it shapes the kite.

And by doing the installation here, I worked with flying lines, which are fixed on the ground of the gallery.

It's like the wind is... like lifting the kite, giving pressure against the sail, the line is pulling and that makes the form of the kite.
