Gemcast Episode 16: What it takes to prosper

Thinking about that kind of context, the environment.

So let's say you're in charge of a country that's trying to prosper.

How do you start? What are those ingredients that you're putting into the pot? What are the first couple of things that you're thinking you absolutely need to have in order to prosper?

You need a habitat where firms can grow.

And what is that habitat? It's not that complicated because basically every Fast growing.

Every successful city in North America, in Europe, and now in much of East Asia, a lot of East Asia, every city has it.

So it's not rocket science anymore, but it is a habitat in which a firm can get, what does it need? It needs a whole support series of firms, accountancy firms that are good, Honest, reliable, up to standard, range of

business support services.

Okay, but we don't live in some sunlit green uplands where you can just, you know, create your nice state and create nice governance.

No, it's much, it's easier

said than done.

Yeah, so what I'm getting to is like, the world's competitive.

Capital moves where it gets return.

So, I look at the world today, and you pointed to East Asia and the competition that countries face there in terms of manufacturing jobs moving around.

And we've well documented some of the big changes.

And of course, these countries also operate within the system today.

We're probably entering, ending a a unipolar era entering a bipolar era.

And we, you know, it's well documented the competition for resources, particularly as it pertains to African economies.

So in that environment where, okay, you created the governance, the rule of law, everything else, how do you balance the competitive dynamics, the forces that jostle you around, the waves in the storm, as it were?
