Funk and Disorderly - Episode September 3, 2026

Hello and welcome back.

You are currently tuned in to Funk and Disorderly here on CJSW 90.9 FM.

My name is Christy and that track that you just heard was called Give It All Up by the Dynamic Superiors off of their 1977 album Love.

Give and Take.

Dramatic pause there.

Give and Take was the fourth album from the Dynamic Superiors, and it was also their last album on Motown Records.

There was actually a lot of covers on that album specifically, which included the covers of Martha and the Vandellas with their track Nowhere to Run, as well as Stevie Wonder's All in Love is Fair.

It's also noted that Mariah Carey sampled the song Here Comes That Feeling Again off of the album Give and Take, but was rejected due to no clearance from the songwriters.

So she wasn't able to get the publishing rights for that.

But it was actually leaked later that year online.

So you can still find that if you would like to take a listen to that.

It was supposed to be on the Emancipation of Mimi, but was not cleared in time for that album to come out.

So if you take a look, you can see...

That song, if you just look up, here comes that feeling again, Mariah Carey, and you should be able to find it.

Again, that was the track Give It All Up by the Dynamic Superiors off of their 1977 album Give and Take.

Before that, we heard the track Keep On Trying by Furia, and that is off of their split single Crying in Iran and Keep On Trying, which was released in 1980.

Before that, at the top of the set, we heard I'll Be Damned If It's Me by Read Inc. off of their self-titled album.

Now, Read Inc. is actually a... project by clarence reed and was performed by his backing group uh album was released in 1977 uh and was cleared to play on motown records as well again i'll be damned if it's me by reading off of their self-titled album time right now is currently 12 22 p.m here in calgary how's everyone doing how is life treating you as always feel free to text the booth 403-220-3991 It's a bit dreary, but that's okay.

We still have a lot of time left in the year To do all the things that we want to do before it starts to get snowy.

I was talking to my friends earlier and I was saying, I'm going to make a bet right now that it's not going to snow until November.

Yes, I know that might seem like a bit of well-wishing, but that's what I'm putting into the universe.

I don't want to see any snow on the ground until at least November.

Because right around the corner... of September is October and the funding drive is coming up and I'm very very very excited as usually October is my favorite month of the year to be able to do stuff for funding drive and as always you already know there's going to be the CJSW Halloween party at the end of October as well and I don't want to see snow on the ground for that I don't want to be cold I don't want to use coat check I'm coming in my costume and that's it And that's all I have to say on the matter.

Next track that you're about to hear is called Moving On by Kenny Doss off of his album Moving On a Feeling.
