Alexander SchmiedingHostSo some of us are celebrated for our ambition and others of us experience a penalty around it, right? So we have this kind of push-pull, double-bind relationship with it of take up space, but not too much space because if you do, that's not a good thing.
I actually think it can be purposeful and it can feel really good and really generative.
When, in your opinion, does ambition become unhealthy or disconnected from who we really are?
It's just a desire for more life, a wish to grow, which is inherent in every living thing on the planet, right? From our plant babies to our human babies.
But where it gets a little wonky or corrupted is that there's two orientations of it.
There is painful ambition, which is driven by our core wounds, and I'll tell you all about those in a moment.
And then there's purposeful ambition, which is connected to our truth and comes from a place of wholeness.
And if you haven't heard that phrase before, a core wound is an initial injury of the psyche.
It either happens in our family systems or on the playground or even watching others from having an experience.
And so the five core wounds are rejection, abandonment, humiliation, betrayal, and injustice.
So For example, if you have an abandonment wound, the mask you'll wear is dependence, where you're overly reliant on the people closest to you.
It often shows up as hyper-individualism in the work context, so it's interesting.
