Norway's Traffic Light System: What's Changing Next

Let's start by zooming out and look at Norway's approach to sea lice regulation that's been evolving really over the last 20 to even 30 years.

The first 0.5 female sea lice per fish was a threshold that was set in the year 2000.

And although at this point, farms were only counting lice every two weeks instead of every week.

Then in 2013, Norway moved the rule requiring farms to stay below 0.5 adult female sea lice per fish weekly counts when water temperatures were above 4 degrees Celsius.

And then in 2017, Norway tightened the spring rule further to 0.2 adult female lice per fish during the most sensitive migration weeks when wild fish are coming out of their rivers.

Otherwise, the limit would remain at 0.5 for the rest of the year.
