I was watching my little boy last week as he went off to kindergarten, and I had the thought, gosh, it must be exhausting to be a little kid.

One of my very favorite things about being an adult is that I have a good idea of what tomorrow will be.

But for this little child on their way to kindergarten, everything is a leap of faith.

Every morning he has to make his way into the gates of the unknown, as you just said.

Actually, is tomorrow a school day? Look, I don't understand how the days of the week work.

And then even for kids, if they know, okay, tomorrow's Monday, that's school, there's no comfort in that because it's not like they're going to school to continue doing the things they're already good at.

Indeed, the point of school is to give them something they don't yet know how to do every day.

And so they must say to themselves, well, though troubles wait at every turn, I know I can go on.

And as the celebrant team was discussing, the heart of courage is that you don't know what will happen.

As Brene Brown eloquently puts it, it's the ability to be brave when you cannot control the outcome.

As adults, we need resolve to eat the meals, the healthy meals that we did in fact plan for.
