Hello and welcome to Fast Talk, your source for the science of endurance performance.

We all love the story of the underdog athlete up against insurmountable odds, putting in a heroic effort at the critical moment of a race to rise above and win when no one thought they could.

Having an exceptional performance may require that big all or nothing effort at some point.

More than that, however, it requires that a hundred smaller, less dramatic details are taken care of to ensure the athlete arrives at the race with their best fitness, their gear dialed, their nutrition plan in place, and that the potential for unforeseen complications has been minimized.

Here to talk about the many details an athlete needs to consider to have an exceptional performance is elite coach Adam Mills, the owner of Source Endurance.

Adam is a former elite cyclist and has coached 35 athletes to national championships titles.

He'll define what we mean by an exceptional performance, and then we'll discuss what an athlete needs to do in January to have that performance in June, including setting intermediary goals to test form and build the strengths they need.

And then we'll shift our focus to all the details that need to be considered in the week leading up to the race.

This includes scouting riders and the course, getting travel logistics right, planning feeds, and knowing the race guide.

Then we'll finish out with the three biggest mistakes Adam sees riders make and the three things that all riders need to make sure they take care of.

Joining Adam, we'll hear from Angela Pauly, co-founder of MetPro, a company that works with athletes to create optimal nutrition plans for their training.

We'll also hear from Coach Julie Young, owner of Julie Young Coaching on the importance of distractions.

So start planning out all the details of your exceptional performance and let's make you fast.
